Every rabbit has its own taste – owners know this all too well. What one devours with enthusiasm, another will reject with a wrinkled nose. But is there a clear favorite among the common vegetables?
We did the test! 🐰🥗
Three popular and regularly fed vegetables were on the menu:
🥕 carrot
🥬 Saddlery
🥦 Kohlrabi
Each of our rabbits got three small pieces (one piece each of carrot, celery and kohlrabi) served simultaneously.
All pieces were raw, unseasoned and of the same size, so as not to create any advantages or disadvantages.
The selection was tested in several runs – with different animals and on several days.
Carrot was the clear favorite!
In over 80% of cases, the Carrot chosen and eaten first – closely followed by celery. Kohlrabi almost always came in third place, but was still completely eaten – just later.
Sweet taste – particularly tasty due to its natural sugar content
Crisp texture – ideal for snacking
Known & trusted – many rabbits become familiar with carrots early on
Even though carrots are very popular, they should only in moderation They are fed to other foods – because of their higher sugar content. They are well suited as… Reward or a small highlight in the fresh food mix, but not as the main component of the daily ration.
✅ celery (Stalk & leafy greens) is a great mineral-rich alternative and can be fed regularly.
✅ Kohlrabi is also well suited – the kohlrabi greens can also be fed here!
