Here are our best tips!
Rabbits shed a lot of fur during molting season. Unfortunately, they also ingest a lot of it while grooming – which can lead to hairballs in their digestive tract. This can be dangerous!
👉 Therefore, it is important:
Short-haired rabbits: brush every few days
Long-haired rabbits: best to feed them daily
Use a soft brush or comb that easily catches loose hair.
Tip: Brushing isn't just grooming – it also strengthens the bond between you and your furry friend!
A fresh, plant-rich diet is particularly important during the shedding season. Herbs and leafy greens They provide your rabbit with important nutrients such as vitamin A, zinc and biotin – all substances that strengthen skin and fur.
Recommended varieties:
Stinging nettle (dried or fresh – great for skin & blood)
dandelion
Parsely
Celery greens
Ribwort plantain
👉 Offer daily, varied and as untreated as possible.
Flaxseeds are a real insider tip during shedding season! They contain mucilage, which acts like a gentle lubricant in the intestines – perfect for getting rid of swallowed hair naturally.
Here's how:
Soak 1 teaspoon of flaxseed in warm water (at least 20 minutes)
Let it cool down and mix it into the fresh food.
2-3 times a week is perfectly sufficient.
Sunflower seeds contain many healthy fatty acids that can make the coat soft and shiny. But beware: they are very high in calories.
👉 Therefore:
Max. 2–3 Cores per Tag
Ideal as a small supplement – not as a main food
What is often forgotten: Exercise helps with shedding!
Hopping, digging and running stimulates blood circulation – this supports the shedding of fur from the inside out.
